Upcoming Fund-Raiser Nov. 13!

Come on out Friday, Nov. 13 for a special night featuring soul ‘n’ rock ‘n’ roll music, a chance to meet Motown legends and your chance to take home a slew of amazing prizes from Detroit area businesses - and it’s all for a good cause: to raise money for the Austin Past & Future Fund’s scholarships for Detroit youth.

Attend a meet and greet with Paul Riser, the famed Motown arranger who is responsible for everything from “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone” to “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” Also attending will be Joe “Pep” Harris of Motown group The Undisputed Truth (“Smiling Faces”) and McKinley Jackson, who not only served as music director for Marvin Gaye and The Temptations, but also played on a number of Motown hits.

Bid in a charity auction for gift certificates from Bon Bon Bon, Dutch Girl Donuts, People’s Records, The Schvitz, the Claymore Shop in Birmingham and the Dakota Inn Rathskeller, as well as autographs from Detroit soul legends, Detroit books and more!

And all the while, listen to some of the finest in soul, R’n’B and rock ‘n’ roll records from a number of the city’s top DJs and record collectors. Slinging vinyl will be Mike Dutkewych of Soul Deep, Danny Kroha of legendary Detroit garage rockers The Gories, Dave Lawson of WDET’s “Shake Out,” Adam Stanfel of WHCK’s “Curio Cabinet,” Erica Aytes Hill of Motor City Soul Club, DJ Alr!ght of Party Stomp, and Sisteranna of Pop Junk.

All proceeds benefit the Austin Past & Future Fund, which was launched this year to offer scholarships to Detroit youth committed to giving back to the city and keeping HistoricDetroit.org running after the passing of its founder, Dan Austin.

It all goes down at Long Play (former UFO Factory) at 2110 Trumbull in Corktown!

No cover at the door, but we hope you’ll consider supporting the fund’s mission by making a donation, bidding in the auctions and taking the opportunity to meet the men responsible for having us dancing in the streets.

A big thank you to the Soul Deep and Motor City Soul Club crews for organizing this event!
